⚠️ Conversion tracking info

Do you want to track Acuity conversions, GA4, Google Ads etc? Read this first.
If you don’t care about analytics or conversions, you can skip reading this.

A lot of people want to track Acuity Scheduling conversions. You may think that if you can redirect to a thank you page, you can use Google Tag Manager to track page views on /thank-you.

❗ Don’t use redirects for conversion tracking because:

  1. Bad data
    People will accidentally refresh the thank-you page, or continue from /thank-you page to somewhere else, and go back with browser back button. You will get duplicate conversions if you just track a page view as conversions. I did not think this was a big issue until I saw the data – tons of people do this. There is a workaround, by saving a cookie and just sending conversion for first page view on /thank-you, but it’s complicated.
    🆘 Your analytics data will be corrupt.

  2. Wrong GA4 traffic source
    Often when using a redirect, the original traffic source (instagram.com, google.com, youtube.com – the website from which the user came to your website) will be overwritten. Example: client goes to google.com → yourwebsite.com → acuityscheduling.com → yourwebsite.com/thank-you. GA4 should show google.com as the traffic source, but it will show acuityscheduling.com.
    🆘 Your analytics data will be corrupt.

  3. It may be against GA4 terms and conditions
    Google Analytics has clear terms and conditions regarding Personally Identifiable Information (PII). If you do conversion tracking and send for example client email for Google Ads enhanced conversion tracking, like /thank-you?acuityEmail=john@john.com and send a page view to GA4, you’re breaking GA4 PII rules. There is a workaround for this, but it’s another reason not to use redirect to thank you page for conversion tracking.
    🆘 You may be breaking the law

  4. There’s a much better way to track conversions
    If you want to track Acuity conversions, check the Acuity Conversion Tracker instead. Redirection is not recommended for conversion tracking as it can mess up Google Analytics ‘referrer’ and show incorrect traffic source.
    ✅ Use redirector for redirects. Use conversion tracker for conversion tracking.

🙋‍♂️ If you want both Acuity redirect AND Acuity conversion tracking, I can implement them correctly and fix all the issues 1-4. But this plugin will not be enough as the code needed is very advanced. For redirect + conversion tracking – get in touch at @hire

Plugin versions

Simple version includes redirects and works on all Acuity versions.
The Pro version is prettier and includes the beautiful animated loading spinner which makes the experience smoother. The pro version requires the highest Acuity powerhouse plan. If you have Powerhouse plan or can upgrade, I recommend the pro version for best experience. If you don’t have Powerhouse plan and can’t get it, get the Simple version.

About smoothly animated loading spinner

This plugin has a pretty loading Spinner. It requires the $45 per month Powerhouse plan. This plugin works on all plans, but only the Powerhouse will have loadin spinner. Explained fully in video below. No refunds if you hope to get a loading spinner with cheaper version of acuity.



Requirements

  • Acuity Plans: Any Acuity plan will work. Powerhouse plan required for loading spinner animation that removes the 0.2 second delay before redirect kicks in. Any plan will work but Powerhouse plan makes redirect look a bit smoother.

  • Acuity must be embedded as iFrame to your website.

  • You must be able to add a small code snippet to your website. For example

    • Use Squarespace’s Code Injection like this

    • Use a plugin like this or this for WordPress

    • Follow these steps for Wix

    • Webflow has Site settings > Custom code, like this

    • Etc. Any platform will work, as long as you can add a code snippet to it.


Updates

Update 15 Jun 2023

  • Some rare CMS’s had a bug if adding Acuity booking info as URL parameters. I added an option to turn it on/off. Defaults to ‘off’, to prevent hassle for you and me. But it’s still available if needed.

Update 31 Mar 2023

  • 🔥 Biggest update. Browser and Acuity are preventing redirects. The reason is to block spammy ad iFrames from redirecting people without them wanting to be redirected. To keep the plugin working I used a new better method that’s a million times more reliable. Instead of Acuity telling browser to redirect, we send a message from Acuity to your website to redirect itself.
    Much better. Reliable.
    Should work forever.
    One extra copy-paste is needed. But worth it.

✅ Fixed a bug where fallback redirect was missing the URL parameters (the things that allow showing booking info like email or appointment name on the thank you page)

❗Important: Acuity stopped redirection codes from working. For example this code:

does not work anymore. This rediection plugin still works, as I spent ~4 hours updating it.

Update 24th October 2022

  • Acuity launched new client scheduling page. It’s basically a fresh new look. You can choose the classic or new look. However, new look doesn’t yet have Custom CSS. Loading spinner in this plugin needs that feature to work. Use the classic look until Custom CSS will be supported.

Acuity seems to have a limit on how many characters can be added to integrations. 15-18 redirects is ok. If you need more than that, please get in touch for a custom solution.
